Airtel has introduced a usage fee for utility bill payments on its popular Airtel Thanks app. This move has sparked discussions among users who frequently rely on the app for recharge & bill payments.
Airtel Thanks app is popular among Airtel users for recharge & bill payments. But the recent introduction of the usage fee may drop its user count.
Currently, Airtel app usage fee on bill payment is noticed if you’re paying via credit card. However, if you have Airtel Axis card you will save more than the usage fee.
A Reddit user wrote, “By taking such “convenience fees” or “usage fees” for credit card, essentially every merchant who does so is passing on MDR + interchange fees to the consumer. RBI says that’s not allowed by law but as usual, there’s no enforcement, no regulation of their published rules, only “guidelines”
“Yes, same here. I also paid last month and have been regularly paying electricity bills through the Airtel Thanks app for the past year without any usage fee. It’s only this month that I’ve started seeing this extra charge.“, wrote another Reddit user.
Airtel has stated that the fee was introduced to enhance the app’s services and ensure a smoother user experience. ut users are concerned over the additional usage fee charged on airtel.
Previously, GPay had introduced a convenience fee for recharge & bill payments. After that, they saw a drop in active users.
